“Mediation in a tranquil night”
By Li Bai (Tang Dynasty)

Bed side moon light shines,
Frost on ground it seems,
Head up behold bright moon,
Head down sweet home dreas.

Poem “Staying at the Lo’s Pavillion thinking of friends ”

By Li Shang Yin, Tang Dynasty

Bamboo dock seems dustless clean while water runs crystal clear from the drain,

Separation by distance makes us thinking of each other cannot refrain,

Autumn overcat lingers as frost flies high in the sunset late,

Withered lotus lonely listens to the rhythum of the rain.”

A quote from “Great Learning” by Confucius’ student Tsand Zhe and his followers (505-435BC).

Exploration leads to wisedom,

Wisdom leads to sincerity,

Sincerity leads to faithfulness,

Faithfulness leads to self-perfection,

Self-perfection leads to a unified family,

A unified family leads to a well reigned country,

A well reigned country leads to a peaceful World,

Which is the ultimate goal of Confucism.

“Four big tips in life (attitudes) lead to happier in life) – Diligent, Grateful, Inclusive and Forgive” by Kam Wai Kwok

 My comments:

Diligent – satisfaction through accomplishment of duties in life, which is very true. However, due to we cannot fulfill everything in life and we have limited time in life, we need to be selective.  Therefore, we need to set goal and priorities in life in order to accomplish more. Great achievement starts with self-actualisation.

Grateful – We hear a lot of talks on “Give is happier than take”. In order to feel it, we must practice it ofeten and than we can feel it. This is a positive energy will keep bouncing back forth around us, and we will enjoy it for the rest of our life.

Inclusive – Because nothing is absolutely right or wrong, therefore we need to be open minded to see things in other angles. We need to accept different ideas in order to perfect ours. This is the power to bring cohesiveness in a group. Any great leader needs this power.

Forgive – We are not saint, everyone makes mistakes. Therefore, we need to forgive and forget. This is the most invincible poswer of all, which will diminish conflects and wars. It will bring peace to the World!

「人心惟危,道心惟微;

“16-Character Royal Motto” – by ancient Emperor Shun (2200BC)

If the people’s will cannot be observed,

Then justice can never be upheld;

The only way to excellence is dedication,

Practice it unbiasly and without deviation.

A poety in the tune of “River in red all over” by Yu Fei, Sung Dynasty

Bristly hair, hat almost fell off, feeling furious am I,

I lean against the railing,

The drizzly rain stops its fall.

Raising my eyebrow, I look afar,

I make a long sigh towards the sky,

My mind immerses in an emotional recall.

Thirty credits and honours are just ash and soil, I ignore,

Eight thousand miles under the clouds and moonlight pour.

Waste no time,

When the young head turns to white and black no more,

To regret in vain, what for?

Jingkang insult,

Yet waiting to revenge for,

As a subordinate feeling ashame,

When will this regret end no more?

Drive a long chariot to the war,

Knock down the Helan Mountain Gate completely to the floor..

We vow to conquer the enemy, if we have to eat their flesh in hunger at all,

We laugh and fight the invaders from the North, if we have to drink their blood and thirsty no more.

Let’s make a new start,

Recover all our lost home land once encore,

And return to our Emporer with triumph restored!

“Asking the moon with a glass of wine in hand” by Li Bai, Tang Dynasty.

“Asking the moon with a glass of wine in hand” by Li Bai, Tang Dynasty.

When did the bright moon first appear on the clear sky?

I want to put aside my glass and ask the heaven why..

Man always wants to climb up to the moon but in vain,

But the moon looks like always by our side remain.

The moon is so bright like a mirror against the gorgeous palace hanging on its side,

When the misty cloud retreates, here comes a sparkling moon on the sky.

The moon is seen rising from the sea in the dark evening,

It turns out disappearing amid the clouds in the early morning.

The rabbit on the moon keeps pounding medicine Autumn through Spring,

While Chang E is so solitary and with whom she is neighboring?

There’s no way to see the ancient moon by people of present,

But the moon we see today was once shining the people of ancient.

People of today and ancient, they come and go like flow of water,

But we all share the same bright moon the same way ever.

We only wish when we toast to each other and sing,

The moon will always shines into the bottle when we drink!

Final version -

A “water theme song” poetry by Su Shi, Sung Dynasty.

A “water theme song” poetry by Su Shi, Sung Dynasty.

When can we see a moon that will brightly shine?

With a glass of wine in hand, I ask the clear sky.

Don’t know what the palace is like up in the heaven,

And what year is it tonight, even?

I wish to take on the wind to ride to the moon,

But I fear the soaring high jade towers and marble temples,

Which may make me freightening too soon!

I start to dance chasing the shadow of the moon,

Am I really in the real World this very soon?

The moon passes the corner of the gorgeous towers,

Into the lace curtain window,

Shining onto a sleepless man with a shadow!

The moon should not bear any hatred or feeling,

How come it always becomes a full moon when people are parting?

In life, man can have sadness or happiness, parting or reunion,

For the moon, it can appear cloudy or clear, crescent or full moon,

This has always been like this since the times of old moment.

May I wish we all live longer,

And share the same bright moon thousand miles apart together!

“28-character poem”by To Fu, Tang Dynasty

Two Orioles sing gaily on the green willow tree,

One group of egrets fly sky high in a single file.

Off the window, West mountain covered by snow of thousand Autumns,

Outside the door, East Wu ships mooring continued many a thousand mile.
